Finally, an update for my Gun Sniper Naomi Cosplay! Now, I know it doesn't look like much now, but I am hoping it will look amazing when completed ( or at least half way decent).
This is the base of the tail, made from very thick cardboard, with places of stress strengthened by plywood. It is made out of three sections that are supposed to be slightly tapered. Between each section are joints made from cardboard between two pieces of some sort of wood. Yes, the tail does move. It will be attached by a belt, though some minor adjustments to the belt might be made as I work on the costume. I made it out of thick cardboard because I was going for lightweight and on a budget. So far, it has held up and is actually stronger than you might think.
At this point, the tail still needs foam armor, paint and details, which I will hopefully get around to next weekend or so. Though, school has been taking chunks out of my time, which is why this update is way overdue.
If you have any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated!
Big thanks to my dad who did all the cutting and helped me with the adjusting ( Needed quite a bit) of the patterns I made myself. He is always a great help with my cosplays, and if it weren't for him I might not even be making Cosplays.
Looks great ^^ Might want to reinforce the piece of the tail that'll be resting against you though. You did it for the Belt slots, but it should probably be done for the entire edge that might rub against you. You may also find that the belt starts to dig into you, even with the low weight materials, so you may have to run a string/wire from the first joint disk, probably just tied off to the screw, up to a higher point on your body. This should also help with the tail drooping down and looking limp. Hope this is helpful ^^
Yes, it will be reinforced, I just wanted to make sure that I was done with the belt slots first. It would be a disaster if I needed to go back and fix them. That sounds like a good idea, and I will definitely do so. I will probably put a hook or something on the booster pack, so I can store it easier and still attach the wire from the tail to the booster pack and support it. Thanks for the suggestions! They are really going to help me out on this costume, and I really appreciate you giving me advice
Thanks so much! I am so glad that you think it is awesome. And I'm no genius, it was mostly my dad who made it able to move, I just came up with a sort of idea that was changed a lot. XD I don't know what I would do without the help from my dad.
Yea,I am really happy that I was able to make it articulated. I'm hoping that if people bump into it, which I know they will, it will just move out of the way instead of bending and breaking and stuff.
